Gonzalo Guaman

Gonzalo Guaman
Oklahoma City
Nominated by Wanda Jo Peltier

Gonzalo Guaman is a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in Bolivia. He helped to start the Hispanic Soccer League in Oklahoma City. He recognizes the value of organized sports as a tool to promote youth development.

Wanda Jo Peltier writes:

"Human rights are those belonging to each individual. For example, freedom of religion, speech, and the freedom to peaceably assemble – all without interference by the government.
"Gonzalo expresses, supports and exemplifies the meaning of human rights when he faithfully attends a weekly luncheon. He shakes hands with everyone there. This personal attention affirms each person’s humanity, which is worthy of human rights."

On December 10th, the Oklahoma Universal Human Rights Alliance will honor human rights heroes from around our great state. A recognition program will take place at the State Capitol. Gonzalo Guaman will be among those to be recognized. More information about the program can be found here: "Celebrate Human Rights."
